8 Facts You Might Not Know About Comic Books

Comic Books. All too often I’ve heard comic books called adult picture books. This couldn’t be further from the truth. A comic book is a collaboration of writers, artists, editors, inkers. An entire team goes into making a comic book.

All too often they’ve been brushed aside and not given the recognition they deserve. You can read here about how passionate I am when it comes to comics and why they’ve been so important in my life.

1. In 1897 the very first comic was The Yellow Kid in McFadden’s Flats

This book wasn’t like the comic books we’ve grown to love today. Instead, it was reprints of black and white comic strips from the local newspaper.

2. In June of 1939, Action Comics (DC Comics) introduced Superman.

With Jerry Siegel writing and Joe Shuster art, the hero was first optioned as a series in the newspaper. However, those plans never came to fruition.

3. In recent years, the most popular superhero is Spiderman.
