Looking Back Now
Looking back, I see it now
He was never the one
I always hoped his reactions would change
Wished that I’d see what I wanted
What I needed
I imagined it all differently
Bonds were never formed
Life was never shared
…at least not both ways
There was never a moment with kids when my heart pounded out of my chest at the thought
-he never melted like that
He didn’t find thrill in the thought of having a future with me
-his eyes never showed with hope or pride
I just want to find the one who’s going to feel like magic and fairytales
The one who will love my little found family as much as I do
Better yet
The one who will aid my love for them
Not snuff it out and make excuses
Not like him
-or how he was
Hi!
I’ve been posting my poetry for a bit now. A little bit of my way of processing the year that 2025 has been so far. If you’re interested, please check out some of the others or share your own stories of moving past a first heartbreak.
