No, don’t worry, I’m not here to tell you about, “The Swift Life” app. (although if you’re a Swiftie and you say you don’t know what that is I'm going to judge you pretty hard from the get-go) 2017 was a wild time and if you’re anything like me you prefer to not go back to those days.

What I am here to talk about is the overwhelming support that has come from Miss Swift in means of creating a community. Well really, what my experience has been as we finish out the first summer of The Eras Tour.

Let’s put it this way, for starters. If I see you out and about in any type of Taylor Swift merch I’m probably going to ask you what your favorite album is. The second I reach into my backpack after this question it’s safe to assume you know what I’m doing: I’m reaching for a friendship bracelet.

Make the Friendship Bracelets

If you don’t fall in this category you probably have no idea what I’m talking about right now or why it’s important. Let me give you a small demonstration. Below you will find lyrics to a song off of Taylor’s 10th studio album Midnights. The song is perfectly titled You’re on Your Own, Kid set forth a phenomenon that has captivated her audience.

So make the friendship bracelets
Take the moment and taste it
You’ve got no reason to be to be afraid
You’re on your own, kid
Yeah, you can face this
You’re on your own, kid
You always have been

I don’t know about you, but those words hit a cord from the moment they first sounded in my ears.

Ultimately what has come to result from these heartfelt and heart-hitting lyrics is the permission to find comrnodery in the fact that we’re all faking it till we make it. That we all have a baseline in common and it’s that there is some Taylor Swift song that has made us feel like there’s hope in that feeling of being alone and lost.

Handing out these friendship bracelets to those who also wear their badges of understanding by means of tee-shirts and other merch has been such a rewarding feeling. Seeing faces light up when they talk about their favorite…
