The Forgotten Benefits of Engagement on Medium

A couple of months ago I posed a question: “What do you use Medium for?”.

I was curious to find out what the thoughts that went on in other writer’s brains were. What made them sit down in front of the computer and type? What is the main drive for publishing on such a platform?

The responses were few and far between, but I think over the past few months I’ve figured out why. Interaction isn’t easy going around here. You ask a question for participation, thinking it’ll start a discussion and unfortunately, it usually falls flat.

We all too often forget that interaction is what builds discussion and promotes more writing.

Conversation Promotes a Sense of Belonging

If there is one thing I’ve learned over the years it’s that other writers like to feel seen. This means participating in discussions with others and reflecting on the pieces that they’ve read.
